Isometric exercising has been around for centuries and has been proven to tone and build muscle. The beauty of isometrics is that you do not have to purchase expensive equipment or travel to a gym to exercise. You can do isometrics in the privacy of your own home with little or no equipment because you use self-resistance to strengthen your muscles. Young and old alike enjoy doing these exercises and are well pleased with the results. They have found that doing isometrics regularly keeps their muscles toned, but it also helped to offset loss of muscle tissue as they grew older.
There are various exercises that can tone and develop each muscle group in your body. The most basic exercises require no equipment because one muscle opposes another muscle, providing the needed resistance to strengthen the muscles. There is a real easy way to demonstrate this: simply bend one arm to form a 90 degree angle having your elbow stationary at your side. With that palm facing up, place your other palm on top of it. Now try to bring the hand on the bottom up toward your head while pushing down with the hand that is on top. Can you feel the resistance? This is called self-resistance exercising.
Isometrics has been proven to not only help tone and strengthen muscles, but also to improve blood circulation, lower cholesterol levels, help to lose weight, decreases the risk of osteoporosis, and increases metabolism. There are many self-resistant exercises you can do for each muscle group, but before you start any exercise program, always consult our doctor first.
