Simply Isometrics

Isometrics is a stationary exercise of the muscle. The basic "work" of isometrics is to strengthen the muscle by holding (or straining) its position for about seven seconds without moving the joint. This lessens movement, time and energy you spend on exercising. This helps the muscle rebuild and firm up without high impact movement. When you build muscle, you naturally burn fat. Isometrics help isolate and strengthen a specific muscle or group of muscles. When combined with regular exercise and a healthy, balanced diet, isometrics can be an aid in jump starting weight loss. It can also help create a stronger, firmer, toner looking body.

There are many isometric exercises, some of which can be done sitting in a chair or lying on a bed. For the morbidly obese or physically limited, these exercises are effective and doable, making exercise more practical. Isometrics are simple and easy for most people. They are also being effective for those who cannot do traditional exercise programs like heart murmur patients and people that need low impact physical therapy workouts.

The isometric exercise has been part of physical training for centuries in respected practices such as Yoga and Chinese martial arts. Today, the basics of isometrics have been incorporated into many other forms of physical training that can be performed almost anywhere, any time and on any muscle. Basic instructions on isometrics can be found quite easily in many forms on the Internet and in books. Talking with a doctor before starting any exercise regime is always a good idea and can help avoid any misunderstanding or potential accidents.
